Beta virus decorated this week's Smart Virus place.This is a kind of bacteriophage,which infects to bacterium Corynebacterium diptherium.It lies in bacterium as dormant and causes Diptheria in Human beings.
Beta virus bears genes,code for a kind of endotoxin when present as lysogeny(Prophage).This endotoxin is non toxin to bacterium,but leads to progression of disease in humans;when C.diptheria infects to humans.The real enemy is not bacterium in this case,but the bacteriophage.We classify C.diptheria strains as gravis,intermidius & mitis depending on the level of expression of virus coded endotoxin,which again depends upon the regulation level of latency.
This is an extreme example of indirect involvement of bacteriophage in progression of disease in human.

Other bacterias likeStreptococcus pyogenesis(erythrogenic toxin),Salmonella(O-antigen),E.cloi(Shiga like toxins) are also shows lysogeny inversion.
